A former rowing coach, Andy Rebele started Pure Watercraft in 2011 with a mission to replace… Read More

The explosion of tech companies setting up headquarters in major cities has encroached on the homeless population. After launching in Seattle in April, BMW’s car sharing service ReachNow is expanding down the I-5 corridor to Portland, Oregon. In Seattle, more than 13,000 people signed up in the first month, and ReachNow was able to add 150 vehicles and expand its service area by late June. It’s likely the Portland expansion will follow the same plan, with a fleet of vehicles in the city center… Read More

Seattle will move forward with plans to restrict how many units its residents can list on short-term rental platforms like Airbnb and VRBO. Keeping things a little more lax than cities that have adopted a one-host, one-home policy, Seattle’s proposal would allow each short-term rental host to list their own place of residence coupled with one extra housing unit. Hardly anyone was pleased by the rollback of the broadband privacy rule last month, opening up the possibility of ISPs collecting and selling your browsing data — including, as it turns out, cities whose citizens were left out in the cold. Seattle wasted no time taking matters into their own hands, and the result is a local rule that provides a few of the repealed one’s critical… Read More

There is nothing quite like Seattle in June. Everything is green, the sun shines, and the air is crisp. And, of course, TechCrunch heads into town for the annual TC Meetup + Pitch-off. Seattle seems like an unlikely venue for a duel between bike-sharing companies: it’s rainy, hilly, its residents can’t drive and another bike-share program recently went belly-up publicly and ignominiously. But Ofo, one of several Chinese giants in the space, is the third company to launch in the city in a month. It’s the company’s first foray in the States. Read More
